Makers In Marin

Instructor and Student doing STEM activity

A big shout-out to everyone we met at Edna Maguire's school’s Makers’ Night in Mill Valley this week. TinkerTech showcased Piper Computer Kits that give kids everything they need to easily build their own Raspberry Pi portable computer. What’s more, Piper CEO Dave Lundgren and his wife Sue are Mill Valley natives and came to demo the kit.

It was great to learn more about Piper kits that teach the fundamentals of electronics and coding through Minecraft Pi. We’re excited to be working together to encourage young makers, coders, and engineers in Marin County.

Students can try out the Piper Kit in TinkerTech camps this summer. Still, deciding which camp is right for your student? Here are answers to questions parents had at the event.

What camps are you doing this summer?

TinkerTech is running small group camps for 10 to 15 students every week from June 13 to August 12. Most of our camps are for ages 7-11. Each camp has different coding and building activities. Our five-week camp is in San Anselmo. We have one week in nearby Ross and in Sausalito and a two-week camp in Larkspur. The Larkspur camp takes incoming 1st graders.

Do you have camps for older students?

Yes. We have a special Design Camp at the Marin Makerspace for ages 11-13.

How much are the camps?

Most TinkerTech camps are $649 per week for a full-day camp, 9:00-2:30 pm. This works out as $23.50 per hour. Materials fees are included.
